Riley Meyer

Riley Meyer from Kemmerer is our newest Featured Wrestler!  A beast on the mat and a heck of a student and person off the mat.  Thanks for doing the interview Riley and good luck this season!!

Favorite thing about wrestling?
-My favorite thing about wrestling is the relationships and experiences I have had because of wrestling. I have been able to travel around the world, meet some amazing people and build friendships that will last forever. It has also opened up so many opportunities for my future that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Wrestling had also taught me  how to deal with tough things on and off the mat. 

Favorite past wrestler/coach?
-My favorite wrestler is Tai Mcbride, she was an amazing wrestler that has inspired me to want to become the best wrestler that I can be. Along with my dad, my dad has  been my coach since the beginning. He has taught me so much and is there for every match cheering me on and helping me improve. 

Goal for wrestling, life, and career?
-My wrestling goal is to wrestle in college and possibly coach after that, my life and career goals would be to become a veterinarian. 

If you could teach a younger wrestler one thing, what would it be?
-I would tell them to always try your best, It will get hard but don't give up. There is so much you will gain both on and off the mat if you stick to it. 

You have been very close to that state championship the past two seasons. Can you talk about the motivation that the last two years have provided and what you have done in the off season to prepare for a title run this year?
-Being that close to winning the championship just drives me to work harder and focus on my training and skills. I continue to wrestle year around, I attend camps and go to as many pre-season tournaments that I can. I watch a lot of film by myself and with my coaches to see what I can improve on and do better.  

The Kemmerer team has been in the top five at state every year. Tell me about the culture that that has been created in a short time and what it’s like to be a part of such a successful program.
-We have a great program in Kemmerer, we have amazing coaches and wrestlers in the room. Our coaches put in extra time to get to know each wrestler and know what they need to work on as an individual to make them better. We push each other in the room to be the best we can, we have a lot of support not only in the room but in the community as well. It's fun to see how supportive the town of Kemmerer has been. It’s an exciting feeling walking into the room every day knowing how far we have come, seeing our numbers go up and seeing how hard everybody is working. 

Anything else that you would like to add or touch on?
-I would really just like the thank everybody that has supported me, I have the best support system not only in the room but in my family, community, coaches and athletes from all over.
